Thanks, Chef! Hey Fwends, it’s Ally (Mish Blally) here. Chef and I are so excited to share some of his fave tips and tricks for bringing your Garden Pawrty to life, using what’s already in your own yard. So… let’s get this party started!
First thing’s first: Please be respectful of nature everywhere you go, it takes such good care of us. Please use safety and caution when handling anything natural and do not attempt to retrieve anything at a height, that looks un-safe, or that you know to be dangerous. Unless you’re gardening, let’s leave rooted plants in the ground so they can grow and share their abundance later! Let’s remember to leave our animal friends be and not disturb them or their houses. You wouldn’t want someone taking your roof off to use it at a party, would you? And lastly, if you’re kid-aged, please ask adults in your life to assist with this part. The plus side is, they might be able to reach higher things for you!
There is something beautiful about every season having its own colors and textures, it really gets the design aspect down for you! Since we’re hosting a spring party, we will see a lot of pastel colors from flowers, a lot of greenery from plants and little beginning buds. You can use these themes to help coordinate with servingware, napkins, etc. And the best thing is, with nature as the star of the show, you can use so many varying types of servingware and it will usually match! Remember the most important part of the party is being together with folks you LUB, everything else comes second to that, so don’t stress about having it look a certain way!
Nature is great about helping us get over our need for perfection. Nature is perfectly imperfect and all the more beautiful for it. We can all take a lesson from basking in the natural beauty of things around us that exist just as they are, and do so radiantly. First we start with the base. A tablecloth is not necessary, but if you want one - amazing! If you have one, even better. And if you don’t, consider visiting your local thrift store or charity shop for a sustainable, unique, and affordable option. This goes for all your garden party accessories - silverware, servingware, drinkware. Once your tablecloth (if used) is set, and before you arrange your plates, go through your yard and see if there are any leaves, buds, seed pods, etc. on the ground that you can scatter across the table like confetti - nature’s confetti! Just be sure to lookout for bugs that may be using these or hold off if an item is too damp or mushy - this may stain your tablescape.
Branches. Grasses, and stems are perfect here. They can add some height to your table scape and Chef’s favorite part, add a bit of drama. Find smaller twigs that could be used to hold up placecards, like the printable one’s here, or use them as part of the centerpiece. Grasses and stems are great for the centerpiece, too, if using a vase. Just make sure anything in the middle of the table doesn’t block the view of fwends from one another!
Here is another opportunity to add layers of color and texture! Vines (again check to make sure they don’t have bugs, thorns, or prickly hairs!) can be intertwined with branches on the table or added to centerpiece vases. The same with flowers, plus a single stem placed on each chair, or napkin, can add a very special touch to everyone’s seat at the table. You can dry a couple leaves or flowers ahead of time and add them to your party invite envelopes for a special surprise, a naturelle! Speaking of invites, you can download Chef’s version here!
Invite your guests to bring something from their yard to add to the table, or general ambiance while sharing the safety guidelines with them. Gatherings are much more fun because people can bring something they’re sharing with LUB and it usually also comes with a good story!
Wishing you all a safe, sweet, and delicious Garden Pawrty! Don’t forget to send us any pictures from your Tiny get-together!
